Dear Family + Friends,
Two weeks ago our friend/father/uncle/brother/husband Mark was diagnosed with stage 4 oropharyngeal cancer.
We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have access to some of the best doctors in America, to review imaging, give second opinions, and more. As a result, he is planning to begin six weeks of radiation and chemotherapy treatment on October 23rd in Orange County. Most importantly, he is ready to fight.
Frustrated by an initial sense of helplessness we were reminded of a lesson our Papa instilled in us that goes something like this, "alone we can do so little, together we can do so much." We know the forthcoming weeks will be challenging; but we also know the power of rallying the troops and how together, our positive spirits can be the most uplifting and effective treatment.
So, in addition to his doctors and specialists, we’ve created "Team Mark" to be his full-fledged tactical support team — and you are a first-round pick. What does that mean? It means you have a tremendous impact on him, and your collective love and strength will be the extra energy to power him through his treatment.
To ignite his inner fighter (after all, did you know his name is derived from old Latin, “Mart-kos,” which means “God of war” or “to be warlike?") we have included pre-stamped note cards to him, and over the next six weeks we’d love to continually surprise him with a little extra sunshine from you. It can be quick as a “Kick some ass, Mark !”…or something more polished if you prefer! Also included is a pocket angel — with which an extra strong squeeze can immediately transmit love.
